This morning during my shower I blasted amazon prime music, and the song ‘Bang Bang’ by the English singer Jessie J came on. Also featuring Ariana Grande and Nicki Minaj, the song is up-beat and great for getting ones morning going, but definitely more than a bit naughty and inappropriate for your kiddos.
The only time I’ve seen Jessie J perform was on Dancing with the Stars last season performing that same song in her trademark short-shorts. So when I heard she was doing a cover of the beloved Little Mermaid song “Part of Your World” on an upcoming Disney album, ‘We Love Disney,’ I was just a little bit concerned.
A quick aside: Yes, I watch Dancing with the Stars with my wife. Honestly it’s only fair considering all the ‘guy-shows’ she watches with me. She joins me while I shout “Carl, get in the house!” during The Walking Dead. And I watch attractive, scantily clad women dance. Hmmm… maybe I’m getting the better deal?
Turns out my fears concerning Jessie J were misplaced. She did a fine job with ‘Part of Your World’. While it’d be hard to beat the original, that’s not a fair comparison. You be the judge (there’s a link to a YouTube video below). Jessie J, born in 1988, was just a baby when The Little Mermaid was released in 1989.
“I selected ‘Part of Your World’ from The Little Mermaid because when I was little, I literally loved this song, and I always wanted to be able to sing it, combing my hair with a fork,” said the British singer during a behind-the-scenes clip from the making of the album video.
