ChristKindl LIVE 2020—Online Christmas Market

I lived in Europe twice, in Amsterdam and Vienna, and some of my fondest memories are of the wonderful Viennese Christmas Market, the Wiener Christkindlmarkt, pictured below. Colorful wooden market stalls in long rows, each selling beautiful handmade gifts and holiday treats. I can still smell the roasting chestnuts as we strolled through the falling snow, hot glass of Glühwein in hand. Absolute holiday heaven!

Though I’ve missed those European Christmas Markets of my youth, I’ve been able to take my family to some fantastic local Christmas Markets right here in the US over the years. Sadly, the status of some of these holiday fairs and markets this year are up in the air, and I was concerned we might miss out on this fun aspect of our holiday season, but I’ve got some good news: Christkindl is LIVE online this year!

Christkindle.LIVE

Many cities have canceled this year’s holiday craft fairs and Christmas markets due to concerns over COVID-19, so I was excited to hear there will soon be a Christkindl Market online that will support their vendors from around their state, and provide holiday shoppers with an alternative to Amazon and QVC. They are launching Christkindl.LIVE on November 15,  and it features a live booth assistant:

I’m intrigued by the concept of a live booth assistant via live streaming. It’s kind of cool; have a question or want a better look at something? Just ask the booth assistant to show it to you. It’s meant to be the same as when you walk up to a Christmas market booth, but everything is happening on your computer, tablet or cell phone screen, online, live. I’m definitely going to give it a try.

Christmas Market

An online Christmas Market like this can never replace the magic for all the senses that an in person Christkindl market provides. I’m writing this in early October and don’t know yet if there will be in-person events this year. What’s happening where you are? If they don’t hold local events nearby this year, at least this may provide an opportunity to interact and experience a small measure of holiday shopping magic.

Merry Christmas from our home to yours! Be well.
