Welcome to the 2010 Ultimate Blog Party!

This daddy shares a home in Texas (of all places) with his beautiful bride; a bouncing baby girl; a not so small nor bouncy dog, and a slightly weathered pet rock that inexplicably keeps finding its way to the rubbish bin. He claims to be moderately literate, adequately well traveled, and is clearly well fed.

Ultimate Blog Party 2010

As my hoards of rabid readers already know, my wife is a famous “mommy blogger” and host of milkandcuddles.com. In our home it’s fair to say she wears the… um, blog pants. That sounded funnier in my head. Anyway, she just made me aware of a cool online event… well, party really… that 5 Minutes for Mom is hosting.

As a Daddy Blogger I feel honored to be invited to the party, the overwhelming waves of wafting estrogen notwithstanding. Thanks so much for dropping by and making this daddy feel welcome. Take a quick look at my posts below (or via the links on the right) and leave a comment on any that strike your fancy.

I look forward to visiting your blogs. Welcome, and enjoy the party!

By the way, if you’ve not already entered, be sure to visit 5 Minutes for Mom. There are so many cool prizes to be won at this year’s Ultimate Blog Party, but my top three picks would be:

  • The Grand Prize of a Toshiba Satellite L505D-ES5025  from 5 Minutes for Mom
  • The $200 Apple Gift certificate from CmomGo (USC #17)
  • The $150 shopping spree at Pedal Cars and Retro Collectibles from 5 Minutes for Mom (US #1)

And if my top three picks are already chosen, I’d love any of the following (in order of preference):

  • 39, 40, 101, 104, 11, 95, USC37, USC8, USC13, 73, 74, 87, 112, USC37, USC3, USC15, 2, 32, USC 60

  1. Hi daddy! I’m visiting from the UBP 10! It’s nice to have some male bloggers even if so few. It makes you guys special!

I’ve got copies of James Patterson’s Alex Cross’s Trial (comes out next months) to giveaway courtsey of the publisher.

Hope to see you at mine!

    Party Post

    1. Hello, Brooke. Thanks for dropping by. Cool audio blog on your site. I tried to leave a comment, but am not sure if it worked. Anyway, thanks for dropping by. Good luck with the UBP. Sorry that I’m going to win the grand prize, but there are some nice Amazon gift certificates you can win in order to feed your literary habit. Have a day.

  2. I think it’s awesome that you AND your wife both blog – I wish I could get Joshua to blog, but ha, goodluck. He always says that after he introduces himself, he’d be out of things to talk about.
This is my first UBP and I’m so excited!!

    1. Thanks so much, Jerrica! It’s my first UBP, too. My wife is the big blogger in our house. We are very lucky to have a wonderful baby girl at home. Marriage and parenthood is the most important thing that’s happened to me in my life, so it’s not to hard to blog about it. Good luck with the UBP. I’ll be dropping by your blog soon.

  3. So nice to meet a guy on this great UBP adventure!

    1. Hi, Stephanie. I dropped by your blog. Wish I was crafty like you, but sadly I didn’t get that gene. Hope you are having a great day. Good luck with the UBP. Enjoy the party!

also visiting from the UBP 10! great job on your blog !:)

    1. Thanks, Claudia. I couldn’t find a link to your blog if you have one. Wanted to come check it out. If you happen to see this reply let me know the URL. Regardless, thanks for stopping by. Have a great week!

  4. I am sure all dads are welcome to the party! I love reading a dad’s view on things. Your daughter is adorable. If you wife wears the blog pants, I think you ate least deserve to wear the blog shorts or maybe even capris!

    1. Capris. Cute. I’ll stick to jeans or shorts, thank you. 😉 I dropped by your blog. Those organic teething cookies look great. I think we gave our baby those or something similar. Have a great week.

  5. What a cute blog, I am stopping by from UBP!

    1. Thanks. Good luck with your baby planning. Keep up the folic acid supplementation before and during. Have a great week!

  6. Stopped by from UBP 10 because I love to see male bloggers on things! My husband and I both blog also, you guys are the only other couple I have found so far. Awesome!

    1. Hey, thanks for dropping by my blog. Hope you had a great weekend. Yes, per your post, life does change after the baby… but I wouldn’t trade it for anything. Cool that your hubby blogs, too. Yeah, you don’t see too many that do. And to be fair, I don’t have much time to keep up with it. My wife is the big blogger in our house, hers is milkandcuddles.com. Have a great week!

  7. Awesome Daddy blogger! Stopping by from UBP and enjoyed your blog.

    1. Hi, Patty. Thanks for stopping by my blog. For a new blog (I’m pretty new too) yours is really great. Good luck getting your Avon business up and running. Have a great week!

  8. Stopping by from UBP10! Does it make you feel better that I’ve never heard of your wife?? So I’m reading your blog first. Now she’ll be the wife of the great Daddy Blogger that I read instead of vice versa. 🙂

Great to “meet” you. I can’t wait to read more of your work seeing as your party post totally cracked me up. I hope you take a second to drop by my blog and say hi!

    1. Thanks, Merry. Perhaps I needn’t be known only as milkandcuddle’s hubby. I did drop by your blog. Who knew an engineer could be so creative? No hate mail from engineers now please. I’m just teasing. Have a great week!

  9. Love seeing a blog from the father’s perspective! Followed you from UBP.

    1. Hey, Elizabeth. Thanks for dropping by! Glad the move to your small Minnesota town a couple years ago (after living in Las Vegas) went so well. It “was like walking back in time”, eh? Sounds nice. I’ve sometimes wondered if we shouldn’t move someplace with a slower friendlier pace. Have a great week.

  10. Hi, I’m stopping by from the UBP. It’s great to see couple blogging. I couldn’t get mind to do it but have transition him to cloth diapers. It’s been over 1yrs. He’s not much into cloth wipes, YET 🙂

    1. Yeah… well… um… it’s probably easier to blog than to switch to cloth diapers. My mom had both my brother and me in cloth at the same time when I was a baby. As guilty as I may feel about disposable, I’ve not made that leap myself. Your blog is appropriately named looking a the photo of your kiddos. Thanks so much for dropping by.

  11. Hi! Just dropped by from the UBP. Nice to meet you!

    1. It’s nice to meet another wordpress blogger. I enjoyed reading your recent posts. Good luck with your 90 day challenge. I’m pretty knew to all this, and a bit of a rarity I suppose as a “daddy blogger”. Thanks for dropping by my blog.

  12. Enjoyed your post and blog! Found you on the UBP! I like your humor! thanks!

    1. Hi, Beth. Thanks for dropping by my “daddy blog”. Congrat’s on getting your own domain. My wife has one at milkandcuddles.com. Good for you. Oh, and thanks for complimenting my humor, such as it is. You’re too kind. Have a great evening.

  13. I hopped on over from UBP 10! It’s great to have Daddy bloggers…my husband has NO clue about blogging 🙂 And doesn’t really get it when I’m working on a post…not that I have many since I’m new to blogging.

    1. Hi Sam. Welcome to the wild wacky world of blogging. I’m quite new to it as well, and part of an apparently rare breed of “daddy bloggers”. I actually started this blog to better understand what my wife was doing with her blog: milkandcuddles.com. Thanks for stopping by my humble home on the web. Enjoy the rest of your week.

  14. What a pleasure it is to see a dad here writing his thoughts down! Looking forward to readong more! Thanks to UBP for this great chance to meet!

    1. I don’t think I’ve had a super hero leave a comment before. Pleased to meet you Super Spice. Thanks so much for dropping by.

  15. So fun to see dads at the event! You must be a strong man to admit your wife wears the blogging pants. For some reason, most things sound funnier in my head than they do when I write them or actually say them. I must be very amusing to myself. I’m going to have to check out your famous wife. I like to associate with famous people. Makes me feel better about myself. LOL

    1. You think I’m “a strong man to admit my wife wears the blogging pants in our family?” Not at all. I wear a kilt, but that’s for another blog. I’m glad that we are at least entertaining to ourselves. I enjoyed your wordless wednesday photos. Have a great week… or what’s left of it.

  16. Off to check out your wife’s blog–and it’s nice to ‘meet’ you! You are the first ‘daddy blog’ I’ve visited thus far!

    1. Thanks for dropping by the Daddy’s blog. LOL. And yes, def visit my wife’s at milkandcuddles.com. Very cool about your Great Wolf Lodge Waterslide-athon. My wife has been interested in checking one of those hotels out.

  17. Stopping by UBP 2010 to say hi!

    1. Hi Janet. Thanks for dropping by this Daddy’s humble little home on the web. Good luck with those UBP prises. Have a great week!

  18. here for the party! love the dad blogs.

    1. That’s for joining the party. I couldn’t find a link back to your blog if you have one. Leave a comment with a link if you see this as I’d like to return the favor of the visit. What are you serving at your party. Given I’m in Texas I decided upon virtual margaritas, chips and salsa. Have a great day!

  19. Welcome to the party Daddy! This is my first UBP too, and man am I having a blast meeting all you other bloggers out there!

    1. Thanks, Deanna. I enjoyed your site. Per my comment you might want to check out “Her Fearful Symmetry” after you finish “The Time Travelers Wife”. I didn’t like it as much as Audrey Niffenegger’s first book, though. Oh, and I must confess I found “The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society” totally charming. That is one that you might consider checking out from the library on CD, as they reading is done really well by a large cast.

Nice to meet you! Happy blog party week 🙂

    1. Thanks Kim. Happy VBP to you, too! Love the photo of your son towing the unusual trailer behind his toy car.

  20. Hello!!
It’s so nice to see that you and your wife blog!!
Be bless always with you and your family!
    My best to you!

    Happy UBP 2010

    1. Hi Paola! Thanks for dropping by my daddy blog, such as it is. LOL. Love the name of your blog. My wife’s is named “milkandcuddles.com” so I guess there is a similar type feel to it. Hope you are having a great week!

  21. Hi
Glad to meet you! I am a native of Texas – living in Minneapolis now. I love the fresh perspective – your wife’s blog looks great too. Please stop by http://www.motherlylaw.com when you have a chance. There’s a party going on there too. This blog hopping is fun.
    Thanks, Anna from http://www.motherlylaw.com

    1. Hey, Anna. Thanks for the chocolate and wine. 😉 Dark chocolate and cab goes well together I hear. Have a great week! Oh, and thanks for dropping by from UBP10. Careful about including so many links in your comments. It got sequestered to my spam filter as a result. I rescued it though. All the best from Texas!

  22. Hey there from a fellow Dad blogger. My wife told me about the UBP also. I can totally relate about the “wearing the blogging pants” thing. Nice site by the way and on a side note, Dr. Who rocks!

    See you around.

    1. Hey Mark. Thanks for stopping by my “daddy blog”. I’m glad there are other guys out there blogging. Love your work, btw. I used to shoot a lot of B&W in Europe years ago. Mostly so I could save money and develop/print it easily myself… that and I loved the look you could achieve (e.g. via dodging, burning, etc). Nothing as nice as your work though. Have a great day!

  23. Hey from UBP! You know I have never read a Daddy Blogger before but I am starting now. I think it’s great. I am trying to get my hubby to write a weekly blog post on my blog. We need more perspective from the dads out there! 🙂 So thanks for sharing your blog.

Please feel free to stop by our blog! http://www.kandmbaby.blogspot.com

    Party on!

    1. Hi Mary. Belated greetings from the UBP! Thanks for dropping by my “Daddy Blog”. My wife is a SAHM to our baby girl, too. You’re family is lovely. Oh, and congrats on that closet cleanup. I can barely get into mine. Appreciate the inspiration. Have a lovely day!

  24. Dropping by from UBP. I had no idea daddy’s blogged too. Very cool.

    1. Hey there. Thanks for dropping by my humble daddy blog. Yes there are a few of us, but as I think I said someplace on my blog, my wife wears the blogging pants in our family. Love your christmas photo. Two in diapers, eh? My mom did that (with cloth diapers) with my brother and I. My wife and I just have the one right now. Have a great evening!

  25. Hello! Stopping by from the UBP, and it’s nice to see a daddy perspective–and nice to see another scifi fan. Sadly, I have absolutely no time for TV these days, so I’m not caught up on anything (my husband and I were hoping to catch up on Lost by the end of the series, but that’s clearly not going to happen. We’re only on season 4!) I write scifi though, and am questing to be published. Please stop by http://sciencefictionmommy.blogspot.com/ and have a look around!

    1. Thanks for dropping by my blog for the UBP. Love the photo of you and your son in the laundry basket. Regarding your LOST delema. Yes, it’s hard to find the time, though that is one for which we make time. My wife got me hooked on it. Recently we got a DVR and it has revolutionized our limited TV viewing.

  26. Hey Daddyblogger, am just stopping by from the UBP2010. Great to meet you and connect with you.

Come by and visit some time at http://www.dadyoucandoit.blogspot.com

    Mark

    1. Hey Mark. Thanks for stopping by my blog. I tried to leave a comment on yours, but had some sort of technical issue with the comment box (or lack thereof). It may be my browser. Anyway, thanks for stopping by. My wife made me aware of the UBP as well. She’s a pretty big blogger (at least compared to me). Her blog is milkandcuddles.com. Anyway, no need to respond. Just wanted to thank you and let you know about the comment box problem.

  27. hi there! i’m alexandra from design baby, stopping in from the ubp! 🙂

    1. Hi Alexandra. Thanks for dropping by. I just left a comment on your blog so I won’t repeat it here. Have a great evening.

  28. YAY!! A daddy blogger! Nice to meet you!! Hope you have a great time with the UBP!! Have a great day!
    http://www.honoringtheking.com

    1. For some reason your comment got caught in my spam filter. I rescued it. I dropped by your blog. Our 20 month old is exhibiting some of the mercurial temperament you described in your 12 year old. Not sure if that bodes well for us. LOL. Have a great weekend.

  29. Visiting from the UBP…Nice to visit a ‘male’ blogger & get their perspective on life 🙂

    1. Thanks so much for dropping by my blog. I’m pretty new to this daddy blogging thing, but I will work on posting more frequently. You know us guys. LOL. BTW, I can’t find a link to your blog if you have one. Please let me know, as I’d like to drop by and return the visit. What are you serving at your UBP?

  30. OH, and Dallas rocks! I used to live north of there several years ago…miss it terribly.

    1. Where in North Texas did you live? Glad to hear it was a good experience. Texas grew on me. When I moved here as a teen (having grown up in Europe and New York) I was quite prepared to hate it, but now I quite like it. As the bumper sticker says, “I wasn’t born in Texas, but I got here as fast as I could.

      1. I was in McKinney – great place. Miss Culver’s, my neighbors (Miss Kay & her lovely family), and driving forever to get somewhere 😉

        1. McKinney is quite nice. Near enough to Dallas to visit for big city amenities (albeit a bit of a drive as you say), but far enough away to avoid some of the negatives of big city life.

  31. Hi there! Stopping by from the Ultimate Blog Party! Better late than never, right?! I’ve finally wrangled my hubby into blogging so I’ll definitely be pointing him towards yours!

    1. Hi, Robin. Thanks for stopping by my blog. Happy to hear the one you don’t call hubby or hubs is going to start blogging. I’m probably a poor role model in that regard, though, as I rarely find time to post. Probably once a week on average. My wife wears the blog pants in our family. Shes milkandcuddles.com.You all have a great, albeit dreary and damp, weekend.

  32. Visiting my first “Daddy blog”!!!
    So nice to meet you!
    Stopping in via UBP2010!
You are surely a most blessed man: a beautiful family you have. 🙂
If you get a chance, stop in and visit me at:

    God bless you and yours…

    1. Hello, Melissa Cleo. So nice to meet you. Thanks for dropping by my blog during the UBP. Love all of your family photos. Sorry to read about Weston. Loss is hard. But you have so much else to be grateful for. As do I. Love your blog. Have a wonderful weekend!

  33. Hey Winner!
