Twas the Night before Christmas—WordlessWednesday Art

Actually, the title of this post isn’t entirely accurate is it? Neither is it “Wordless”, nor could anyone with even a smidgen of visual acuity or artistic taste call it “Art”. Today is Wednesday, though?

It’s said, “A doctor who treats himself has a fool for a patient.” I fear a similar issue arises when the owner of a blog is also its editor. In the spirit of the season, please permit me this bit of self-indulgent folly?

'Twas the Night Before Christmas - Wordle Word Art

The “word art” above was created by me using Wordle. I inserted a subset of the poem into their online tool, adjusted the colors to be somewhat Christmassy (is that a word?), and did some manual manipulation in Photoshop to get it roughly in the shape of a Christmas tree. What do you think?

Dr. Clement C. Moore, to whom the poem is credited, never expected that he would be remembered by it. He had children, and enjoyed writing poetry for them. He even wrote a book.

One year in the early 1800’s he wrote this poem to give to his children for a Christmas present. Most commonly called “‘Twas the Night before Christmas,” it was originally titled “A Visit from St. Nicholas.”

From my family to yours, have a very safe and Merry Christmas!

What a fun idea! Hmmm…I’m going to try the wordle thing with Flowergirl’s favorite song (twinkle twinkle little star) and see what it does. 🙂

    1. Let me know how that turns out, Kat? Love to see it! You can post it in a replay using code like this: <img src=”http://www.flickr.com/photos/*******/123456789/”>. By the way, I sing that Twinkle Twinkle (along with others) to my little girl every night… have done for nearly 4 years. 🙂

My kids are just excited for Christmas. This is a great idea. I want to do this with our Holiday cards!

    1. It really is cool, free, fun and easy to do. A holiday card is a great idea. Thanks for dropping by.

  1. What a beautiful reminder of where this came from! How awesome is it that Wordle actually turned the words into a star! That is awesome! Sending hugs your way…

    1. Thank you, Mitzi. Sending big HUGS to you! I hope you and your family are doing okay following your loss. You’re in our thoughts and prayers.

  2. Such a nice graphic! I think I’ve just found my new wallpaper for the holidays! Thanks for sharing it!

    1. It’s super easy to make your own. Enjoy, Rozi.

  3. This is definitely one of the classics! I’ve written my own children’s Christmas story, and it would be great for families to sit around and read it during Christmas-time.
    Such a fun graphic!

    1. Hey, Scott. Thanks for dropping by. I’ve never written a Christmas story, though our 4 year old daughter did write (dictated) and illustrated her own book. I’ve done some writing, but not children’s books.
