Tornadoes & hurricanes & zombies, oh my!
I’ve got to give major props to Ali S. Khan at the CDC for a brilliant use of Social Media and viral marketing to promote an important message that could literally save lives in an emergency.
The message? “There are all kinds of emergencies out there that we can prepare for. Take a zombie apocalypse for example. That’s right, I said z-o-m-b-i-e a-p-o-c-a-l-y-p-s-e.
You may laugh now, but when it happens you’ll be happy you read this, and hey, maybe you’ll even learn a thing or two about how to prepare for a real emergency.” 😉
So, what do you think of the CDC’s new creative approach? And more importantly, will you be ready when the zombies come for you… or when the next tornado, flood or hurricane arrives?
p.s. Please know that if I’m infected and try to eat your brains… it’s nothing personal.

Love the marketing concept! What an attention grabber that is indeed! We are in the process of preparing for Hurricane Season here in Louisiana which is rapidly approaching. 1st step, repair the roof which has a couple of minor leaks in it. (Diron is taking on that project this week)
Great nearly Wordless Wednesday post my friend. Glad to see you guys survived the storms from last night! (((HUGS)))

Yes, with all of the various natural disasters happening (Mississippi flooding, tornadoes and upcoming hurricanes) seems like a fun way of getting the word out about how to be prepared. It doesn’t take long, but it could save lives… or at least make getting through a rough time without power or water a bit easier. And then there are those pesky zombies.
I saw an interview with this fellow last night on the News. Hubby and I looked at each other and said “Did he say what we think he said?” Yup.
It worked for us, lol….we listened!

Cool. I’d liked to have seen it. A coworker mentioned hearing about it, and then a new blogger I follow wrote a post about it yesterday. You can see his post here thecommonuncommonly.com. Thanks for dropping by, Annie!
lol that is hilarious!! I’m totally going to read what their warnings are now. Martin and I are ready for a zombie apoloypse – we’ve watched that movie Zombieland! 🙂

LOL. The opening of Zombieland with all his rules is quite funny (if you can get over the violence). Hope you and Martin are doing great. When are we going to Ireland next?
Yeah… I loved this piece. Excellent example of using social media and its viral capabilities ot get your big pictur emessage out there.
Very well done.

Thanks, Jack. Someone who commented earlier saw the creator on the news. He did a great job. Bet it was fun, too! 🙂
So glad to see someone else is taking this seriously! 😉

I’m hoping the tin foil cap I use to keep Martians from reading my mind will also work to keep zombies from eating my brain?
See, now you sound just like my mother!
You have to get your monsters straight. That way you will remember which kit to grab based on the emergency. You don’t want to have your Zombie kit when the Martians are landing.
Unless of course they are Zombie Martians.

I loved your post. Thanks for including that conversation with your mom. Too funny. Hope you have a wonderful weekend… unless the zombies get you… 😉
JDaniel has a glow in the dark toothbrush we can use to fend them off.

There’s nothing zombies fear more than a child’s glow in the dark toothbrush. I’m surprised the CDC didn’t cover that bit. They are like mini-light sabers.
This campaign is everywhere, even visible to us poor souls here in South Africa, who, in times of danger, are taught to run indoors not OUT. Personally, I don’t think a kit can do any harm, no matter where you are. And yes, the campaign is fun, which is I suppose, the reasoning behind it all.

Thanks, Nadya. Wow… you’ve even seen it in South Africa. This piece gives the concept of going “viral” a whole new spin. I hope, as you say, it inspire some people to set aside some things for an emergency, whatever form it comes.
Gee, I wonder who they are marketing to? Not the little old lady watching Jeopardy, so she won’t be prepared. Her walker won’t be able to get her out of the way fast enough anyway, so the Jeep might help. Thanks for the CSA! I’ll be sure to pass it along to my teen boys……oh wait, they just passed it along to me.

Yeah, it’s good to be prepared with basics whether you are facing power outages, tornadoes or zombies:
[…] need to protect our families, and what better vehicle to get your family through the impending Zombie Apocalypse than Jeep’s ZS1 Zombie […]
