Has this happened to you? That moment of crystal clarity when the need for change becomes too urgent to resist. Well, I’m there now. No, I’m not moving to a remote mountain-top cave to gaze deeply into my belly button. Okay, I pictured that, and can I just say, “ewwww!” But I digress. Dear iPhone…
I’m going to be brutally honest here. The passion’s gone. It’s not that I don’t love you anymore. It’s just that I’m not in love with you. You are still as beautiful as they day we met… and no, that OtterBox Defender case doesn’t make your retina display look fat. Well, it kinda does, but that’s not the point.
Please understand, it’s not you, it’s me. My needs have changed. I’m just not the same person I was when we met. I’ve something to tell you, and it’s going to hurt. I’m sorry, iPhone, but I’ve cheated on you. I didn’t mean for it to happen. What? It doesn’t matter what her name is. Fine, her name is Lumia 1020.
A friend introduced us. I was in Abu Dhabi, UAE, for for the the Nokia World announcements. The scent of exotic spices filled the air… or that could have been something the U.S. press contingent from the west coast was smoking? Anyway, there she was. I held her for the first time, and my life was forever changed.
I saw the world as if for the first time… in vivid, vibrant color. She accommodated my every need… focus, shutter speed, white balance… she did it all, and more. And with her 41 megapixels she took me places I’d never dreamed. I’m sorry, iPhone, but it’s over. Please… don’t cry. Moisture voids your warranty.
All kidding aside: While I was never an Apple Fanboy, I’ve really enjoyed my iPhone. However, I’ve realized something was missing. I don’t know about you, but I rarely carry a proper digital camera. I do, though, always have my cellphone with me, and almost all of my daughter’s milestones were captured on it.
The iPhone with it’s 8 MP camera makes it easy to take decent pictures and videos. It’s adequate for casual use, but if you truly care about capturing life’s memories… your child’s first steps, your travel adventures… really any of life’s moments, you should consider a switch to the 41 MP Lumia 1020.
UPDATE 2 Weeks Later: I finally moved on from my first love, the iPhone. But the heart is a fickle master. While I still adore the Lumia 1020, Nokia just came out with a new windows phone, the Lumia 1520… and, yep, my head was turned yet again. Ulitmately it was this new one I switched to. Let me know if you’d like to know why? In the meantime you can read more about the Lumia 1520 here if you want.
