Armchair Version of HGTV House Hunters International

HGTV House Hunters International

As followers of @adaddyblog on Twitter know, I have a huge passion for travel, both domestic and international. Though I was born in Florida quite near where Disney World now sits, I lived much of my childhood in other countries. From adventure travel to family travel, I’ve been to 28 countries and counting.

When we aren’t actually on the road exploring new destination in the US and abroad, my wife and I are avid armchair travelers as well. Most recently we’ve been watching the HGTV series House Hunters International together, and my wife, our 9-year-old daughter and I try to pick the house/flat they will rent or buy in a different international city each episode.

I recently discovered a website and app that allows me to play House Hunters International in the UK on my own. It’s called Rightmove and it lets you search and view properties for sale and rent all over England, Scotland, Wales, and Northern Ireland… with a big focus on Greater London. Note: this post is not an ad or compensated post. Just sharing the fun!

If you’ve seen the HGTV Show House Hunters International, you’ll know that each episode features a couple (sometimes married with kids, sometimes friends) searching for a residence in the new country to which they are moving. Often they have very different priorities, and it’s fun guessing how they’ll work them out and what property they’ll select.

So, I’ve been taking sanity breaks during lunch at work and doing a bit of armchair house hunting of my own. Mostly I’ve been looking in London, and the website/app Rightmove.co.uk makes it quite easy. Put in a location (e.g. walking distance to Paddington Station) , whether you want to rent or buy, a price range, number of bedrooms, etc. It generates a list of properties complete with photos.

In addition to looking through the photos of these properties during my armchair international house hunt, I enjoy viewing the linked maps, and especially the integrated Google Street Views of the property. Our daughter likes “driving” around in foreign countries using street view… and truth be told so does her old dad. Google Street View is really cool when viewed via a VR headset, by the way!

All photos shown are from actual properties available for rent or purchase on Rightmove at the time I’m posting this. Let me know if you do a little armchair house hunting yourself, and what you found! Again, this is not a sponsored post. Just sharing my latest sanity break fun! Enjoy.
