Have a Very Safe & Happy Independence Day

We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness.

Having grown up partly in other countries, it’s possible I have a slightly different perspective on our country, the United States, than other people might. While having seen alternatives makes it easier to see the imperfections of our great nation, it also helps me see clearly how very, very lucky we are to live here.

I mean no offense to my many friends from other lands, nor do I deny there is much that is great about their countries, things from which we “Americans” (not sure how that came to mean people from the USA) can learn. But let me be very clear, IMHO there is no greater country or people than those from the United States.

Watercolor of Original American Flag - Happy Independence Day!We are going through a rough patch, and much of the world is going through it with us, but let us never forget the freedoms we enjoy. We often take them for granted because we’ve always had them. I’ve visited nearly 30 countries in my travels, and wonderful though most are, I’ve always been very happy to return home.

So join me in wishing the United States of America a very Happy Birthday! If you live in the USA, take a moment today to ponder how lucky we are. Let’s all stick together, for together we can accomplish anything. And wherever you are today, and from whatever country you hail, please have a very safe and happy 4th of July!
