Geeky New Business Cards with QR Codes

Nearly Wordless Wednesday ๐Ÿ˜‰

According to Wikipedia, the font of all knowledge, QR Codes [short for Quick Response codes] storing addresses and URLs already appear in magazines, on signs, buses, business cards and on just about any object about which users might need information. Haven’t noticed qr codes yet? Look around… you will!

Users with a camera phone equipped with the correct app can scan the image of the QR Code to display text, contact information, connect to a wireless network or open a web page in the phone’s browser. This act of linking from physical world objects is known as a hardlink or physical world hyperlinks.

Geeky New Business Card with QR Code

Including phone numbers, email addresses, URLs and such on your business cards is soooo last week. Here’s how my new business card might appear. If you don’t have the app yet you can click on the QR code to see what would happen. So, are you ready to jump on the QR bandwagon? Best hurry, this train is leaving the station!๏ปฟ

p.s. milkandcuddles.com has a great video explaining how to use a QR reader!

Pay no attention to this weird bit of code: CNVBJXFKECRW

  1. I have actually seen them before, just never knew what they were until your lovely wife posted a blog about them and of course, now you! ๐Ÿ˜‰ I’m not sure if I will use it, though I have no need to at the present moment. I suppose I’m on the fence about whether we are getting so technical about everything…but I feel this shall be a post in the near future. Stay tuned to your local station for more… (((HUGS))) Ps. Love the Business Card though!

    1. Hey, Mitzi. I posed the question on Twitter and quite a few people actually do have them on there cards. I clearly would not really make it my entire card, as not everyone would have the app (at least not yet), but I probably will put it at least on the back of my card. And yes, I learned a lot about them from my wife’s blog. She’s so hip and cutting edge. ๐Ÿ™‚

  2. ya learn something new everyday…

    1. Technology marches forward… and at an increasing pace. It’s interesting how certain things like phones with cameras in them never really happened the way people said, but now we have Skype. And I remember scanners you could attach to your computer that were meant to read barcodes in magazines and such. This of course is more usable version of that. Wonder what the next innovation will be?

  3. When I see them the QR codes I sort of feel like a secret spy. I like to think I will be the only one “decoding” the message. Fun idea with the business cards!

    1. I must confess I really didn’t know what they were when I first saw them. Tori. I’m in the web technology business professionally, so I pride myself on keeping pretty current, but in this case my wife was the one who pointed them out. It is a cool idea, though…. physical world hyperlinks!

  4. I have seen those around. They annoy me because my phone is too stupid to read them. ๐Ÿ˜‰

    1. My “smart-phone” up and died on my last month. At the time the iPhone 5 was slotted for a June or July availability, so I got a “dumb-phone” to stick my SIM card into until it came out. Now it’s looking like 3Q or later for the iPhone 5. ๐Ÿ™ I need to decide if I should wait or go for a 4? Anyway, I feel your pain, Rachael!

  5. Yeah, those are pretty geeky. But I like geeky. I agree that QR codes should be used more often. I find they’re quite handy when surfing the web; it’s a lot easier to scan than type on my iPhone. And I even went into a store that had a QR on their window front that you could scan and get a random discount right on your phone. Brilliant!

See that’s cool. I can see a lot of uses for them. They can convey a variety of information types, but I think you’re right, a URL is probably the most useful. Thanks so much for dropping by. Hey, did you notice. I’ve got a cool new ad in the upper right side of my page. Maybe we should add a QR code to it?

  6. Hey Michael, it’s good that you’ve noticed these as they’re only going to get more popular! QR codes actually started to appear years ago but it took some time for the mainstream to catch on and now as you say – we are seeing them all over the place. As a smartphone owner, I think it’s great!

Hi there! This article of yours is very helpful and informative. The idea there is like encryption of data so that no one else can see the data in your business card and you have it with you always. Geeky but it’s a cool thing. Cheers!

    1. Thanks, Riza. Yeah, it’s a pretty geeky post, but they are popping up all over. You’ll start seeing them not that I’ve pointed them out. Thanks so much for stopping by. I’ll def check out your site. I know my father-in-law could use a wireless fence for his dogs.

You are very much welcome! I do agree with what you said, technology is rapidly getting into our veins today that we don’t know that even the smallest thing is now automatic or “hi-tech”. It’s definitely cool. Yeah, wireless dog fence is a great tool to use for your naughty dogs. ๐Ÿ˜‰

  7. Great idea for using a QR code on the business card.

In addition I’ve found a couple of really great geeky business cards on http://www.inforbiro.com/blog-eng/geeky-business-cards/

    1. I personally like this one:

I really love your blog.. Very nice colors &
theme. Did you build this website yourself? Please reply back as
I’m wanting to create my own personal site and would like to know where you got this from or exactly what the theme is called. Kudos!

    1. Thank you, Gerald. Yes, whether you like the look of my blog or not, I’m the only one to blame. ๐Ÿ˜‰ That said, a good theme really helps. I use the free (though I donate to help keep it updated) theme “Graphene”. You can find out more about it here: http://www.khairul-syahir.com/wordpress-dev/graphene-theme#.URuob_LlDps. It is very flexible, and not too hard to tailor to one’s needs. I’m not too bad with Photoshop, so I created any other graphics. Have a super day!

  8. Business cards with QR Codes, e.g. www[dot]keepautomation[dot]com, maybe a trend, but I think we should not hate it. Now almost everyone has a smart phone, at the same time, barcodes are also throughout our lives. Whether in restaurants, supermarkets, shops, bus schedule, TV commercials, we see barcodes, which have become a communication tool. Every time we see barcode, people can’t help to swipe it, thus, achieving a goal of transferring information.

    1. Hi Sean. Yes, they are becoming ever more ubiquitous and it seems they are not so geeky anymore? Thanks for dropping by and leaving a comment.
